i love my adopted homeland of los angeles, california. i have lived here longer than i have lived anyplace else, by far, and i am inspired by her every single day, more times than i can count, for more reasons than i can describe in the space of an ig caption allotment.
last week, i was working on a project out of town, and so i watched and listened and heart-broke to a lot of news from a distance. i was re-re-re-listening to Slouching Towards Bethlehem on my way home, and as i descended into eery firelight and falling ash this past weekend, this: “Los Angeles weather is the weather of catastrophe, of apocalypse, and, just as the reliably long and bitter winters of New England determine the way life is lived there, so the violence and the unpredictability of the Santa Ana affect the entire quality of life in Los Angeles, accentuate its impermanence, its unreliability. (75$ for first tote, 50$ for any additional totes.) link to donor sites in profile. on memory totes: I line up canvas tote bags under murals + paintings to absorb the literal memories of the making. The memory tote bags all have paint drips, smears, blotches and/or splatters on both sides. No two totes are alike, and base color varies. Each tote is a painting to hang from your shoulder, or, if you cut off the straps, and carefully tear the seams apart, each tote becomes two framable paintings :)
